In our Engineering Excellence Together series, we shine a spotlight on the people who power NTG. Each feature introduces you to a member of our team, offering a closer look at the talent, experience, and personality behind our precision engineering. These are the people who make precision possible, and this series is all about introducing and celebrating them.
In this feature, we would like to introduce you to Laura Rowden, Operations Planner at NTG.
Tell us a little bit about your role?
From scheduling production to coordinating with customers and suppliers, my role as Operations Planner is all about making sure precision happens not just on the shop floor, but across the entire process. It involves reporting and tracking KPIs, ensuring there is performance visibility, and working closely with management to hit targets. Just as importantly, I help to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in production, driving continuous progress and efficiency.
It’s a role that blends organisation, communication, and problem-solving. I strive to support the business in delivering on its promises of precision and excellence.
Tell us a little about your experience…
I have 12 years’ experience in the engineering industry with my most recent role being Quality Manager. However, this was for a smaller business, so I also wore a few hats and have experience in scheduling, purchasing, production management, and quoting, as well as quality. I have also spent a lot of time customer facing in my career, in which building relationships with both customers and suppliers is a priority.
In addition, I have also completed a breadth of training courses and certifications. This includes ISO 9001 Internal Auditing, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) training, Mcosmos CAT1000 training, and an Mcosmos CNC Advanced course.
What do you hope to achieve in your role?
I am looking forward to getting NTG’s Seiki Systems software up and running and then filtering this into Seiki Air. This is a manufacturing execution software which I aim to use to further improve production on the shopfloor. I envision this making massive improvements for the business.
What do you enjoy about working for NTG Group?
I really like the culture of the company and the atmosphere – it’s very friendly. When I joined NTG last summer, everybody made me feel so welcome. It’s a fantastic team!
The company also offers great flexibility – they are allowing me to embrace my new role and truly make it my own.
Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work…
I have two young children, so I enjoy keeping them entertained which is another job in itself! When I get a chance, I enjoy gaming, mainly playing Call of Duty!
